To be a good fit for the Process Technician opportunity, you will have:
  • 3+ years of experience in plastics manufacturing, including experience with:
    • Injection molding  Quick question for you - click here
    • Robotics 
  • Solid computer skills, including:
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (primarily Outlook, and Excel)
    • Experience with inventory and/or production monitor systems, ideally PlantStar
    • Ability to interpret, input data, and plan using a production monitoring system 
  • Must know how to set up, run, and adjust injection molding machines
  • A continuous improvement and safety first mindset
  • A high school diploma or equivalent; trade school or an associate or bachelor's degree, ideally in Plastics or Mechanical or Industrial Engineering preferred
  • Certification or training in relevant skill or trade preferred

As Process Technician, you will join a team of 12 technicians, each with responsibilities focused on optimizing and maintaining production processes to make quality products and reduce scrap.

Here in Elkland, we manufacture polystyrene building products through the injection molding process, with equipment including injection molding machines, grinders, wrappers, color feeders, slit/heat/form/nail tables, and more. You will set up, run, and adjust injection molding machines, using your processing skills to adjust for defects such as splay, short shots, flash, sink, bubbles, warp, etc. Quick question for you - click here

Additional Considerations

You will work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. While performing the duties of this job, you will regularly be exposed to moving mechanical parts and fumes or airborne particles; and frequently be exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and temperature extremes. You must be able to:
  • Be exposed to sounds or noise levels that may exceed 85 db          
  • Withstand exposure to temperature extremes inside or out (ambient temperatures can exceed 100 degrees Fahrenheit)
  • Stand for prolonged periods in a stationary position
  • Complete repetitive motions
  • Bend and/or twist
  • Lift, move, or transport items up to 40 pounds
  • Move or traverse about the facility   
  • Ability to work around dust, power tools, high-temperature molten plastics, and high-volume forklift traffic in various environmental conditions

More about the role
In addition to the responsibilities under The Role tab, you should know:

Our machines are broken into three cells with approximately 20 machines per cell. You'll monitor the machines, making sure they are running good parts and meeting process windows and cycle time expectations, and make any necessary adjustments. Additionally, you will:
  • Manage a production work cell with minimal supervision and communicate all essential manufacturing information to appropriate personnel.
  • Perform first-piece start-up verification activities.
  • Set up and verify Robot End of Arm Tooling for robots, where applicable, and initiate proper robot programming.
  • Set up secondary or assembly equipment.
  • Fill out set up and process monitoring documentation.
  • Perform color changes, insert changes, and mold changes as required.
  • Respond to calls from operators regarding product/process questions and concerns.
  • Respond to calls from the Quality Department over production quality concerns, scrap issues,    adjustments required to processes.
  • Identify needed machine, maintenance, and tooling repairs; initiate appropriate work orders.
  • Participate in internal problem solving/improvement group events as needed.
  • Perform other duties assigned by supervisors, process engineers, and management.
